The DAISY Award

Dana-Farber is one of over 5,400 health care organizations and schools of nursing in all 50 states and 35 other countries and territories that participate in the DAISY Award program, sponsored by the DAISY Foundation (Diseases Attacking the Immune System).

The DAISY Foundation established the DAISY Award in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, whose parents created the foundation in Patrick's memory because they experienced firsthand the skills, care, and compassion of nurses in caring for their son.

DAISY honorees are recognized for their excellence in the following highly valued qualities:  

  • Caring Practices: Exhibits exceptional interpersonal skills with care that is both professional and individualized.
  • Clinical Judgment: Functions at a high level with expert clinical judgment and advanced skills.  
  • Clinical Inquiry: Respected by peers as an astute clinician and serves as a resource and role model.  
  • Facilitator of Learning: Translates complex information to patients and families to foster a sense of control and informed decision-making.  
  • Advocacy: Exhibits compassion toward patients and families in all areas of work.
  • Collaboration: Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team.

The TULIP Award

The TULIP award recognizes and celebrates Clinical Assistants and/or Patient Care Assistants who exemplify Dana- Farber Cancer Institute’s mission, vision and core values. These individuals make a difference in the lives of their patients and patient’s families and are a vital part of our healthcare team. We are proud to recognize them.
